Algerian Ramadan Meals

Discover with me what are the typical Algerian meals, and the names of our famous and favorite recipes in Ramadan in general.

Let’s start!

*** Ftour Meal ***

The Algerian person breaks fasting like in Sunna with dates and sour milk.

Then he starts with the main and very essential dish in the Algerian Ftour which is Chorba or 7rira. He takes it with homemade bread this time, not the bread that we buy from the bakery. There are many people who like to have Chorba with Bourak, which is also an essential dish in Ramadan. Or with any other type of savories. Then the Algerian person will take the second dish, which is made with meat most of the time, like Methawam, one the most popular Algerian dishes in Ramadan. Or Tajine Zitoune, or any dish of this kind. Of course, Salad and Soda are always on the Algerian table, especially in Ramadan. Then, the Algerian person finishes Ftour with something sweet. We call this dish Tajine Le7lou.

*** Ramadan Dessert ***

In Ramadan, an Algerian person will have, without doubt, one the two most popular sweets which are Zlabiya and Qalb Louz.

*** S7our Meal ***

For S7our, an Algerian person will either just have Ftour leftovers. Or, he will have Couscous with milk. Or like in the usual days, he will have coffee milk with Baryouche.

These were the different meals and dishes of Algerian people in Ramadan. Thanks for reading!
