3id al-Ad7a in Algeria
What is 3id al-Ad7a?
3id Al-ad7a is one of the two major Islamic holidays celebrated by Muslims worldwide. It falls on the 10th day of Dhu al-7ijjah, the 12th and final month of the Islamic lunar calendar.
The main ritual of 3id al-Ad7a involves the sacrifice of an animal, usually a goat, sheep, cow, or camel, in remembrance of Ibrahim’s willingness to sacrifice his son.
The meat from the sacrificed animal is divided into three parts; one-third is given to the poor and needy, one-third is shared with friends and family, and the last one-third is kept for the household.
How do Algerian people celebrate 3id al-Ad7a?
Because Algeria is a Muslim country, it is no exception that Algerian people celebrate this 3id; of course with the Algerian touch to it. They pretty much celebrate it the same way as 3id el-Fitr.
